Also known as: Glycated Haemoglobin, Glycosylated Hemoglobin, A1c, Hemoglobin A1c, 3 Month Sugar Test
What is the HbA1c Test?
The HbA1c test (glycated haemoglobin) measures how much sugar is attached to the haemoglobin in your red blood cells. Since red cells live for about three months, HbA1c reflects your average blood sugar over the past 2–3 months.
It is the preferred test to diagnose diabetes and prediabetes, and the best way to see whether diabetes treatment is working — and it does not need fasting.
What it measures: The percentage of haemoglobin that is coated with glucose — a 2–3 month average of your blood sugar.
Parameters included (1)
